Nutrition for children in the highlands of Gia Lai Province

Nutrition for children in the highlands of Gia Lai Province

Santa coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society (cluster 1 includes: District 1, District 3, District 5, District 10 and Thu Duc City) and the Red Cross Society of Gia Lai province to implement a nutrition program for highland children at SOS Children's Village Pleiku and Hoa Orchid kindergarten in Chu Se district, Gia Lai province with a total value of up to 112 million VND including: milk, necessities...

Specifically, Hoa Lan Kindergarten, Chu Pong commune, Chu Se district has a total of 251 students. The proportion of ethnic minority students is 90% (Gia Rai); Of which 111 children are registered as part-boarders. The boarding kitchen will contribute to ensuring student health, maintaining and improving the quality of local education.

SOS Pleiku Children's Village is currently caring for and nurturing 129 children with special circumstances. Among them, 93 children are living in 12 shelters named after flowers and 26 children are studying at colleges, universities and vocational schools. Each child in SOS village is in a different situation such as: both parents have a mental illness or the parent has a work accident or the child is born to a mother who has been abused... In particular, some children were abandoned by their mother at the age of 1, living with their grandmother, but she was infected with Agent Orange and was unable to raise and care for her, so when the child was 3 years old, she was sent to the village. SOS Children's Village Pleiku currently has 12 special mothers. With a compassionate heart, the women took care of every meal and sleep for the vulnerable and unfortunate children like their own children.

From October 2023, international sponsorship from Norway ends; Instead, the current source of support to care for the children comes from Gia Lai Province's budget. Because revenue has not covered expenses, the village stopped accepting children. The budget from the Province optimally takes care of meals for the children and the income sources of the staff mainly come from flexibly organizing preschool educational activities to compensate for expenses for mothers and staff in the village. Accordingly, resources to mobilize and join hands to support the program "Nutrition for children in highland areas" are necessary and contribute to ensuring that all children are cared for and develop comprehensively in both physical condition and health.

Currently, Santa is still working with the Red Cross District 1 to organize Loving the Old and Loving the Young towards the elderly and children in difficult circumstances.
